When the perpetrator is a Muslim, it is terrorism. When the perpetrator of the same crime is a non-Muslim, it is mental health. We need a world free of double standards and structural orphanization of minorities based on racial and religious profiling that is almost always based on a dangerous cross-pollination of ignorance and arrogance. We need a world where racism, racial profiling and genocide is wrong and punished irrespective of who the perpetrator or the victim is - whether their skin colour is brown or pink, or they are jew, christian or muslim.Let the kite perch and let the eagle perch too. Whoever says no to the other, let it wings break. Amen.

I think perpetrators of the specific religion you mentioned always make it clear they're doing it in the name of God. This rhetoric is poor.

The Horn of Africa Regional Democracy Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was a huge success. It was replenishing to meet and fellowship with some of the continent's greatest minds in the region.Horn Center for DemocracyHassan ShireBrian KagoroKidane MengisteabMichael WoldemariamDawit SolomonGhana Center For Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) Director Prof. Kwasi PrempehI spoke on the conflict-democracy dynamics of the HoA. I insisted on one simple point that, unfortunately, is scarcely given serious thought but remains at the core of the crises of governance and nationhood across the continent. "At the very fundamental level, conflict in the Horn of Africa must be seen from the bottom up, and so should democracy. The global is vital, but, many times, it comes to frustrate indigeneity or a sense of locality that is denied both time and space to offer alternative solutions to its problems. The solution must, at least in part, involve a new knowing and a new doing of democracy."Our full report on the conflict sensitivity analysis of the HoA will be published soon, and I look forward to more engagement with our continent in the coming months.

I look forward to speaking at the Horn of Africa Regional Democracy Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, next week. I will present a conflict sensitivity analysis of the Horn of Africa conducted by four consultants, including Grace Akosua Dankwa, Dr Awol Allo, and Bernadette French. The report was commissioned by the Horn Center for Democracy, one of the conference organisers.Hopefully, my experience from West Africa and Australia will add to the debate on the search for lasting peace and security in the important world region of the Horn of Africa.
